‘Pep robbed us’: Some Manchester City fans point out same thing after their star’s international display
Ilkay Gundogan scored during the Germany win on Monday night – but some Manchester City fans were left frustrated after their star’s display.
Gundogan, 30, scored a brilliant goal with a powerful finish during Germany’s 7-1 victory against Latvia. His country go into this summer’s Euro 2020 tournament as one to watch.
However, Man City supporters on social media were pointing out the same thing after their midfielder’s eye-catching performance.
There are some Man City fans who feel last night highlighted the mistake made by their manager Pep Guardiola in the Champions League final defeat to Chelsea.
Unfortunately, Guardiola’s side lost the European final, but won two domestic trophies to make it an excellent overall season.
Guardiola’s decision to play Gundogan in a deeper midfield role against Chelsea is one fans are not forgetting.
He scored 17 goals in all competitions this season playing a box-to-box midfield role, so using him in front of the defence seemed odd by Guardiola. Rodri and Fernandinho were the two individuals surpringly named on the bench that game.
For Guardiola, it will surely be a decision he learns from. It’s not often he has to hold his hands up after a wrong decision.
Gundogan can shine for Germany at Euros
If you are basing Gundogan as a player in the last 12 months, he’s a proper goalscoring midfielder that will contribute going forward.
He’s always been a brilliant ball-playing midfielder. However, he’s added an extra goal threat to go along with the technical side of his game.
Germany aren’t named as the favourites to win the Euros, but they’ve got so much talent.
Here are some Man City fans still discussing the Gundogan decision in the Champions League final, which ultimately restricted his attacking qualities:
