Arsenal’s coaches and officials are far from happy after seeing what one young player has done.

The Gunners have worked really hard on their academy in recent years, and they now boast one of the best youth setups in the country.

Arsenal have produced a number of truly exceptional young players over the last few seasons, but not all of them are still at the club.

The latest to leave Arsenal has caused some disappointment at the Emirates. Here are a few details on what happened behind the scenes.

Why Arsenal are disappointed with Chido Obi-Martin

Chido Obi-Martin was one of Arsenal’s most exciting young players.

The 16-year-old broke several records in the 2023/24 season, including the one Folarin Balogun had set for the most goals scored for the U18s in a single season.

Obi-Martin managed 32 goals in just 18 appearances, which is an unbelievable return. That put him on the radar of several huge clubs across Europe.

Arsenal tried extremely hard to keep hold of Obi-Martin, but the youngster decided to leave the club to explore opportunities elsewhere.

The Daily Mail have shared some behind-the-scenes details about the situation.

The report claims that in addition to a lucrative contract, Arsenal offered Obi-Martin U18s football, game time with the U21s when schedule allowed and also regular chances to train with the first team throughout the season.

However, Obi-Martin wanted U21s football immediately, but the ‘real dealbreaker’ was money. The striker’s representatives were not happy with what was put in front of them by Arsenal.

After failing to reach an agreement due to the player’s demands, Arsenal told Obi-Martin to leave the club, and his stance has reportedly left many people at the club ‘disappointed’.

Manchester United’s salary offer blew Arsenal out of the water

Arsenal were prepared to go above and beyond to keep Obi-Martin at the club, but there was always going to be a limit.

Fabrizio Romano revealed recently that Arsenal did everything they possibly could to convince Obi-Martin, but the player was not happy with what was offered.

The editor of All Nigeria Soccer has revealed that Arsenal offered £15,000-a-week in wages for the 16-year-old but refused to go beyond that amount.

Manchester United, on the other hand, gladly doubled that offer. That appears to have convinced Obi-Martin to pick the Red Devils over Arsenal.

People at the Emirates have every right to be disappointed.
