Tottenham are set on signing Sporting Lisbon right back Pedro Porro this month and see him as their ideal January signing.

The Evening Standard offers an update on Spurs protracted pursuit of Porro. The London club are known to be keen on signing the Sporting star, but as yet have failed to meet the £40m release-clause.

However, far from giving up on the deal, The Evening Standard reports how Spurs still see Porro as their top target for January and will do their best to sign him. It’s claimed that Antonio Conte wants Porro to replace both Mat Doherty and Emerson Royal.

Conte is said to be unconvinced by either of his current right-backs. Indeed, there has been suggestions that Emerson will be moved out. Doherty could well be kept due to some recent impressive performances. However, Conte wants a new starting right-back.

Porro, who Fabrizio Romano has described as a ‘perfect‘ signing for Tottenham, is thought to be open to joining.

Tottenham are also looking to bolster other positions. The ES claims a new forward or attacking player is wanted, while Jordan Pickford is also being eyed to replace Hugo Lloris.

TBR’s View: Tottenham need to stop messing with Porro

If Tottenham are serious about backing Conte and progressing, then these are the sort of deals that just need to be getting done.

The release clause is there. Spurs know they need to pay it. So why aren’t they simply paying up and then working on moving the likes of Royal and co on?

Porro fits Tottenham perfectly. Conte clearly wants someone new at right-back. For this one to be lingering on as long as it has, pretty much sums up Spurs fans’ frustrations.

If come the end of January this one isn’t done, then Tottenham fans will have every right to question Levy and Paratici once again.
