Paul Merson believes reported Arsenal target Youri Tielemans would not suit the way Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool play.
The Belgian has been linked with a move to the Emirates for months now. Arsenal have looked like the favourites to sign him throughout the window, and reports have revealed that he wants to join the Gunners as well.
However, Mikel Arteta has just not tabled an offer to sign Tielemans, and his future is still up in the air as a result.
Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with the midfielder, with journalist Ben Jacobs claiming that he would be open to a move to Anfield in the final few days of the window.
Paul Merson thinks Arsenal target Youri Tielemans does not suit Liverpool
Liverpool have had a shocking start to the new season having picked up just two points after three games. Many people feel that the Reds’ biggest issue is their midfield, which is probably why Tielemans has been linked.
Merson, however, feels it would be a panic buy if Liverpool sign the Belgian in the coming days.
He wrote in his column on The Daily Star: “Liverpool always do their homework on signings so they won’t just sign somebody for the sake of it. They have to suit the way they play.
“One name that keeps cropping up is Youri Tielemans, who was dropped to the bench by Leicester last weekend as he continues to angle for a move.
“I’m just not sure if he suits Liverpool. I might be wrong but if they do go for him, it’s a panic buy. There hasn’t been any interest in him before this mini-crisis.
“I don’t like that – when you lose a couple of games and all of a sudden, you buy someone who wasn’t even on the radar.”

TBR View:
Tielemans is a really good midfielder, there’s no doubt about that.
Branded as a ‘special’ player, the Belgian has been brilliant for Leicester since he joined them from Monaco, and it really is a surprise that he is yet to find a new club in this window.
Liverpool definitely need a new midfielder before Thursday’s deadline – even Klopp admitted it yesterday. Tielemans is an interesting option, but we must say, his style of play suits Arsenal a lot more.
However, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Belgian will stay at Leicester as the Foxes are reportedly demanding a fee in excess of £50 million to sell him in this window.
