Paul Merson has now revealed he is a huge fan of Manchester United No.11 Rasmus Hojlund – and is backing the Dane to achieve big things in football.

The 55-year-old made the comments when writing for Sportskeeda.

So, what did Paul Merson write about Rasmus Hojlund and Manchester United? Let’s take a look…

Paul Merson thinks Rasmus Hojlund will become a superstar

Well, the man from Harlesden believes the Denmark international is a “superstar in the making” after he began to find his feet at Old Trafford.

Hojlund failed to score in his first 14 Premier League appearances for Manchester United following a £72m move from Atalanta in August 2023.

However, the 21-year-old has since scored five goals in his last five Premier League outings, while also providing two assists.

Writing about Hojlund’s turnaround under Erik ten Hag, Merson put: “I’m a huge Hojlund fan and genuinely believe he’s a superstar in the making.

“He’s just 21 but looks like a man already, I really like how he’s come into his own since the turn of the year after what was a tough start to life at a new club. There isn’t much he can’t do and I can only see him getting better.”

Real Madrid are even said to be taking a look at Hojlund as the Spanish giants attempt to replace Karim Benzema.

Manchester United have a diamond

Hojlund may have been an expensive signing at £72m – although he could easily be worth double that amount if he explodes into life next season.

The CIES Football Observatory shows that forwards such as Manchester City No.19 Julian Alvarez and Arsenal No.11 Gabriel Martinelli are valued at €150m (£128m) – so there is no reason why Manchester United would lose money on the Denmark international if he maintains his current level of performance.

Putting finances aside for a moment, Hojlund looks more than capable of becoming one of the best strikers in England – which speaks volumes at 21 – so once he develops a bit more both physically and mentally, the Red Devils should have a lethal forward on their hands.
