Nick Woltemade has made a promising start to life at Newcastle United, and now Paul Merson has made a demand on him for the rest of the season.
Woltemade joined Newcastle for £65million during the summer transfer window, and that price tag instantly put pressure on him to deliver.
Woltemade scored on his Newcastle debut as the Magpies defeated Wolves 1-0, but he failed to make much impact off the bench during their Champions League defeat against Barcelona.
However, Merson believes that Woltemade has the potential to thrive in England, and he’s demanded that he play in the forthcoming games.

Paul Merson wants to see Nick Woltemade in the box more
Woltemade has plenty of expectations on his shoulders due to Alexander Isak’s departure in the summer, and the Toon Army will be anticipating that he will provide the goals.
Merson compared Woltemade’s style to Peter Crouch, and given that he’s scored over 100 goals in the Premier League, Newcastle fans might not be disappointed.
However, during his pre-match predictions for SportsKeeda, Merson made it clear he wants to see the German forward more involved inside the box.
“Nick Woltemade reminds me of Peter Crouch! He has a good brain, comes deep, and gets people involved; that is literally the same way Crouch played.
“My only demand is that Woltemade has to get back in the box a lot more. Sometimes, he just gets too involved in the build-up.
“Based on what we’ve seen so far, you’d be shocked if Woltemade doesn’t score more goals than Sesko this season. He has two wingers who will feed him so well, like they did in that win over Wolves.”
Nick Woltemade isn’t just a target man
Comparing Woltemade to Crouch is something many fans might do due to the height of both men, but it’s not the only way that they’re similar.
Like Crouch used to be, Woltemade is comfortable with the ball at his feet and relishes linking up play where possible.
This is why he could be a versatile signing for Newcastle, as Woltemade has the potential to play in the number 10 role if needed.
Woltemade compared himself to Harry Kane in terms of his style, and if he comes close to what the England international did in the Premier League, then he will prove popular on Tyneside.
