The atmosphere at Celtic Park on Champions League nights truly is something to behold.

Unless you have experienced it there is nothing to compare it with. Unless you have been to a Glasgow Derby that is. Those games really are something else.

But in the east end of Glasgow, European nights are something special and you can always bank on something magical happening when the big boys come to town.

Earlier, TBR Celtic told how Gustaf Lagerbielke couldn’t quite believe the atmosphere in last night’s win against Feyenoord.

We also told how some of the top players in Europe complimented the famous Parkhead cauldron over the years.

Well this time, it’s the turn of former Arsenal striker, Paul Merson, as he lauded the famous Paradise crowd.

Merson posted on social media channel X, “On Sky tonight watching Newcastle v AC Milan… the atmosphere at St James’ Park will be better than the one at Old Trafford last night.

“Newcastle is up there with Celtic Park and Anfield on a Champions League night #UCL. I’ve got a feeling for Newcastle tonight.”

The minute that Champions League anthem belted out in Paradise those Feyenoord players knew they were in for a game.

Many of them couldn’t quite believe the noise and it seems that some may well have been intimidated by the crowd as Feyenoord never really got going.

However, with Celtic fans needing to wait till next season to experience any further European football, there is no doubt that the Hoops board do need to get together with the Green Brigade and come to some sort of truce.

Because for all that Merson’s words ring true, there were times last night when the Feyenoord fans were the loudest in the stadium and that is simply unacceptable.
