Champions League nights at Celtic Park really can be special. When that anthem blares out over the speakers you can genuinely feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

And that’s when you can feel something special going to happen. The atmosphere created by the fans can be electric.

I felt it when I was at the 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid and it seems that Celtic defender, Gustaf Lagerbielke did as well when he came on late into the game.

Taking to Instagram, Lagerbielke said, “What a feeling!! Happy to score my first goal for Celtic.

“Great atmosphere from the fans and great performance from the bhoys.”

Watching the match from home, I could see the Feyenoord player’s reaction when the Champions League anthem blared and the Celtic support roared. The looks on some of their faces was priceless.

And it’s an atmosphere that has spooked and impressed some of the world’s best players in the game.

Messi once described the atmosphere at Celtic Park as ‘the best’ in Europe. Xavi once commented that he had ‘never seen anything like it’ in his career.

Paolo Malidini urged every player in European football to experience the Parkhead cauldron after he played there in 2007 with AC Milan.

And the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo labelled the Celtic fans as ‘incredible’ after he helped Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park in 2008.

Admittedly, the atmosphere was a little subdued due to the ban of the Green Brigade by the Celtic board. The fans will be hoping that the dispute between the two can be resolved sooner rather than later.

Because with a huge Glasgow Derby coming up at the end of the month, the Celtic team will need all fans right behind them to get the win over their closest rivals and increase their lead at the top of the league.
