‘He loves it here’: Paul Lambert believes Celtic man wants to stay despite exit rumours

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has been linked with the vacant Brighton job after Graham Potter left for Chelsea.

It has been reported that the Bhoys boss has no intention of walking away from his current role to take the job south of the border.

Of course, Celtic’s bitter rivals Rangers lost Steven Gerrard mid-season to Aston Villa, with the lure of the Premier League proving too strong.

But Lambert told the Times he does not see that happening to Celtic, and said Postecoglou already has the better job anyway.

Celtic boss Postecoglou should snub Brighton

He said: “I think that will go hand in hand with him because of how well he is doing here. I don’t know the ins and outs of it and if Ange has said anything, but if you are talking about size of clubs they [Brighton] can’t compare with Celtic. There is no comparison. You can compare the leagues, without a doubt, but the job he has got here is huge.

“He has got European football here and hopefully the club can go and continue getting Champions League, can continue getting points on the board, can continue qualifying, because that will entice bigger and better players to come if they see the club getting Champions League football.

“If he keeps doing well here then it will be up to him to make a decision if teams in England or in Europe come for him. But if he manages to maintain the success he’s had here he might not want to leave.

“It’s better to be linked with jobs than having fans calling for your head. I think he loves it here. You can go to another club and all of a sudden things don’t work and you are back to square one. At the moment he’s got everything rocking here. Keeping it going is easier said than done.”

As Lambert eluded to, why would Postecoglou want to leave now? He is adored at Celtic, has brought the Champions League back and has the upper hand in Scotland again.

The Brendan Rodgers saga may make some Celtic fans wary, but the situation is different now and Lambert made some very good points.

Postecoglou has got Celtic to the point where they go toe to toe with Real Madrid, causing them some real problems before ultimately succumbing, and while the Premier League has financial appeal, Brighton won’t be doing that any time soon.
