Patrick Vieira makes Liverpool after Manchester City draw

Patrick Vieira has told BBC Sport that the Premier League title race is going to be exciting after he handed Liverpool a big boost by holding Manchester City to a draw on Monday night.

City’s lead over the Reds is now four points with Jurgen Klopp’s side boasting a game in hand. It did appear that the two heavyweights were destined to win every game until the end of the campaign, barring when they met each other.

However, City have now slipped once again. They have now only won two of their last four Premier League games. Meanwhile, Liverpool have not dropped points in the top-flight since their first game of 2022.

Of course, Crystal Palace are no strangers to playing a role in the title race. It was at Selhurst Park where Liverpool’s title challenge fell apart back in 2014 as they threw away a three-goal lead in the final 11 minutes.

This time around, it may be Liverpool who seize the initiative off the back of the league leaders’ trip to face the Eagles. City were held to a goalless draw.

Obviously, Pep Guardiola’s men dominated the large part of the game. However, City failed to put a single shot on target in the second-half. And they have now opened the door ever so slightly more for Liverpool.

Palace boss Vieira certainly believes that it could go right down to the wire.

“It was a team effort and our performance was really good,” he said, as reported by BBC Sport.

“When you play against the quality of players they have, you need a bit of luck at times – and at times we were lucky – but you also need to perform as well.

“These three teams [Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea] are in the best four or five in Europe.

“You look at how they play, they make the game look easy, they have the quality, the technical ability to make the right decisions. It will be a really exciting end to the season for the title.”

Liverpool may be title race favourites for many should they beat Arsenal on Wednesday

Liverpool are certainly set for their toughest test in the Premier League since that draw with Chelsea on Wednesday. Like the Reds, Arsenal are absolutely flying.

The Gunners are on pole position for the top-four race. And they will want to keep their momentum going.

Should Liverpool win, many may well make the Reds favourites in the title race – if they are not already.
