Report: Paratici fails in attempts to secure 22-year-old ace; called player's agent 'several times'
New Tottenham Hotspur director Fabio Paratici failed in his attempts to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma for Spurs.
According to Calciomercato, the Italian wanted to bring the 22-year-old to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, it’s thought that the youngster rejected the offer in favour of a move to Paris Saint Germain.
Paratici is thought to have called the player’s agent, Mino Raiola ‘several times’ in order to convince the ace to move.
The AC Milan ace is out of contract at the end of this month. He’s already rejected offers from the Serie A outfit over an extension.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that he’s accepted a move to the Parcs des Princes.
TBR View: Donnarumma rejection the start of a tough journey for Paratici at Spurs
Rejection from the likes of Donnarumma is the start of what is likely to be a tough journey for the director of football.
Spurs are a fairly big club following their stadium build and consistent run in the Champions League.
However, they still find themselves behind the majority of big clubs around Europe.
The remaining big six clubs are all likely to have a bigger pull with regards to transfer targets than Spurs.
Just take a look at their north London rivals.
It’s reported Arsenal beat the Lilywhites to the signing of William Saliba back in 2019.
Paratici’s best bet would be to target young, talented players, whom the club can develop.
It’s something Tottenham have managed to do in the past. The likes of Kyle Walker and Heung-Min Son have gone from relatively talented footballers to world-beaters in north London.
Challenging for the top-rated stars around the globe will be a tough ask.
The club’s current position is also holding them back in competing in the market. No Champions League, or even Europa League, football is a huge disadvantage for the outfit.
Then there’s the lack of funds after what has been a turbulent few years for the club. Paying off for the stadium in the same climate as a global pandemic has hamstrung finances.
Paratici has a difficult job at Spurs after Donnarumma’s rejection. The top-rated players are all likely to reject the team for bigger offers elsewhere around Europe.
