Paolo Di Canio says Arsenal player ‘behaved like a baby’ against Bayern Munich last night

Paolo Di Canio has had a real go at an Arsenal player after what he did against Bayern Munich last night.

The quarter-finals of the Champions League returned to the Emirates Stadium after 14 years yesterday. It was a special occasion and Arsenal were, in many people’s eyes, the favourites against Bayern Munich.

The game began as planned – the Gunners took the lead after just 12 minutes thanks to a beautiful goal by Bukayo Saka. Bayern, however, capitalised on two errors and went in front before the break.

Leandro Trossard saved the day in the second half, and that helped Mikel Arteta‘s side secure a 2-2 draw. However, what one Arsenal player did seems to have angered Paolo Di Canio.

Paolo Di Canio angry after seeing what Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka did vs Bayern Munich

Bukayo Saka is one of Arsenal‘s best players.

The Englishman, still only 22, rose to the occasion again last night, scoring a fantastic goal to give Arsenal the lead against Bayern Munich.

Saka kept Alphonso Davies quiet all game too and even picked up a foul that earned the Canadian a yellow card – he will be suspended for the return leg as a result.

That, however, was not all Saka did against Bayern last night. The Englishman was also involved in a huge controversy late in the game.

Saka went to ground inside the box after being caught by Manuel Neuer. Everybody expected it to be a penalty, but the referee disagreed and the VAR decided not to intervene.

The opinions have been divided since last night. Some like Harry Kane felt it was a 50-50, while others like Jamie Carragher are adamant that it wasn’t a penalty.

Paolo Di Canio had his say on Sky Sports Italy after the game, and he had a real go at Saka for going to ground after initiating contact with Neuer.

The Italian said: “He moves blatantly the leg towards Neuer, it’s never a penalty. He didn’t behave as an experienced player. He behaved like a baby with no experience.”

What Bukayo Saka has said on Instagram after the controversy

Bukayo Saka, like most Arsenal fans, was absolutely furious with the referee’s decision to not award the penalty in the final minute of the game.

The Englishman chased the referee as he was heading into the tunnel to demand an explanation. Arsenal assistant manager Albert Stuivenberg had to hold him back at that point.

Saka was clearly not a happy man, but he still went around the ground to applaud the home fans. He was one of the last ones to leave the pitch along with Martin Odegaard.

After he went back, Saka took to Instagram to share a message with the fans. In a post, the Arsenal number seven wrote: “Frustrating, but everything to play for in the second leg!”

On his Instagram Story, an annoyed Saka just wrote two emojis to express his frustration: “😤😤”
