Harry Kane has had his say about the controversy in the clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich last night after Bukayo Saka was denied a penalty in the final minute of the game.

The Gunners went into the first leg full of confidence after what has been an incredible start to 2024. Many people even viewed them as the favourites ahead of the game.

However, after taking the lead through Saka, Arsenal made two uncharacteristic mistakes that pushed Bayern 2-1 up going into half-time.

Leandro Trossard saved the day in the end with an equaliser after the break, but the biggest talking point of the game was what happened to Saka late on.

Harry Kane delivers verdict on if Bukayo Saka should’ve had a penalty

Arsenal and Bayern Munich produced a fantastic game of football last night, but all people can talk about is some of the decisions the referee made.

Despite levelling the game in the second half, Arsenal kept pushing to find a winner. Bayern came close to scoring themselves through Kingsley Coman.

However, the biggest chance fell to Bukayo Saka‘s feet in the final minute of the game, but the Arsenal man went down in the box after a challenge by Manuel Neuer.

There are some people arguing that the Englishman initiated contact with the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, but replays show that Neuer took a step towards Saka too.

Almost every Arsenal fan on social media is convinced that it was a penalty. Even Rio Ferdinand was shocked that it wasn’t given.

After the game, Norwegian journalist Arilas Ould-Saada, who covered the game for TV2 Sport last night, had a chance to speak to Harry Kane.

The former Tottenham man, who scored a penalty himself, was asked if Saka should’ve won a spot-kick after what happened late in the game.

Kane replied: “It’s 50/50. If he was on my team, I would have said it’s a penalty.”

What Thomas Tuchel and Mikel Arteta said about the controversy

The penalty incident involving Bukayo Saka and Manuel Neuer has sparked a lot of reactions after the 2-2 draw at the Emirates last night.

Some are absolutely convinced that Arsenal should’ve been awarded a penalty late in the game, while others feel Saka is to blame for going down instead of finishing the move after getting past Neuer.

These debates will continue until the second leg at the Allianz Arena next week, but what have the men who matter – Mikel Arteta and Thomas Tuchel – said about the incident?

The Arsenal boss distanced himself from the penalty shout by saying: “I haven’t seen it, the decision is made and we have to focus on other aspects that we can control, we could’ve done much better tonight.”

Thomas Tuchel was absolutely furious with the referee’s performance throughout the game.

Speaking about the Saka incident, the German said: “Given the performance of the referee today, I would have not been surprised if he whistled for it.”
