It’s every player that can say that they have played for Celtic. In fact, most fans would give everything they have just to pull on those green and white hoops just once in their life.
So the thought of leaving Paradise to every Celtic fan fills them with absolute horror. Well, horror is maybe a stretch but you can my drift.
So when Odsonne Edouard says he ‘jumped at the chance’ to leave Celtic, that certainly raised my eyebrows.
The £9m signing from Paris Saint-Germain was an instant hit at the club. Scoring 87 goals and creating 38 in 179 appearances for the Hoops was a great return for the money Celtic shelled out for him. [Transfermarkt]
Edouard said [FootMercato], “From the moment I signed in Scotland, my ultimate goal was the Premier League.
“I worked very hard while trying to perform as well as possible to, one day, achieve my dream which was the Premier League.
“In 2021, I had the opportunity to join Crystal Palace and jumped at the chance.”
No one can begrudge Edouard his £18m move to Crystal Palace. Celtic made a big profit on the player and despite looking like he chucked it during the COVID season, he was ‘outstanding‘ as he helped deliver four league titles, three Scottish Cups and four League Cups.
All of which included the brilliant Quadruple Treble season.

Playing well for Palace, I am glad that his move worked out for him. He is a quality player and doesn’t look out of place in the English Premier League.
Something tells me that he could still yet move to a bigger club than Palace, however. And if he does, I hope Celtic have a wee clause in the contract that ensures they are recompensed with a nice little sell-on fee.
