‘Screwed over again’: John Hartson reacts to reported Celtic news

John Hartson is not happy with reported Celtic news about their striker Odsonne Edouard.

According to Sky Sports, Premier League outfit Leicester City could sign Edouard for as little a £18million this summer from Scottish giants Celtic.

It is understood that the two clubs have held “constructive talks”, but a deal is still someway off right now.

Edouard, who previously worked at Parkhead under Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers, is being linked with a switch to England.

The French centre-forward has a phenomenal record of 83 goals in 168 appearances for the Hoops. Notably, he scored 22 times across all competitions this season.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Pundit and ex-Bhoys forward Hartson has made it clear on Twitter he feels £18million would be too low.

Edouard would leave huge hole at Celtic

If you consider Edouard is entering the final year of his contract, £18million seems about right.

Unfortunately, Celtic are in a position where cashing in to allow them the option to reinvest in their squad makes sense. He would have been worth much more last summer.

The 23-year-old was the club’s top scorer in the 2020/21 campaign, but he’s shown in the past he’s capable of reacher higher standards.

For Leicester, Edouard is someone that will bolster their striker options. They are aware that Jamie Vardy won’t be able to play forever.

Meanwhile, Celtic will need some top recruitment to find a replacement, and should already be scouting the market in case he does leave.
