Ossie Ardiles discusses comparisons between himself and Tottenham wonderkid Bryan Gil
Bryan Gil is certainly making an impression in his early days at Tottenham Hotspur, and Ossie Ardiles has spoken out on comparisons with himself.
Gil, 20, joined Tottenham in the summer from Sevilla in a player-plus-cash deal that saw Erik Lamela and £21.6million go the other way.
Signing a five-year deal, Gil has made six appearances for Spurs. He got 30 minutes against Chelsea, and the entire 90 minutes against Wolves.
Now, he could be in line to feature on Sunday as Spurs take on North London rivals Arsenal at The Emirates. The praise is flowing for Gil.
Following the penalty shootout win over Wolves, Spurs legend Graham Roberts took to Twitter to compare Gil to that of another icon – Ardiles.
Now, Ardiles has taken to Twitter to discuss comparisons between himself and Gil – ordering fans to leave him alone, but predicting a “big future”.
Ardiles on Gil: Tottenham talent has to start on Sunday…
Tottenham fans are in desperate need of a bit of excitement. A player to get hyped up about, one that has the ability to get bums off seats.
Gil has that ability. Indeed, other Spurs players too. Harry Kane, of course, but the feeling around Kane is not the loving one of recent years.
Dele Alli, too, but the England international is still far below his glorious previous form. Gil is like a shiny new toy, but more than that – he’s class.
He does play like Ardiles. Flair, aggression, passion, speed and an end product. He could be a secret weapon against Arsenal on Sunday.
