Oliver Skipp has admitted to Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that he was delighted to hear Jose Mourinho’s comments on his performance against Norwich City on Wednesday, but insisted that he would have preferred to help Spurs reach the FA Cup quarter-final.

Tottenham were knocked out in dramatic circumstances. Two saves from Tim Krul saw the Canaries come out on top during a penalty shootout after the two sides drew 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Despite the cup exit, Mourinho was full of praise for Skipp’s performance. As reported by Football London, he labelled the youngster’s display phenomenal.

And while Skipp explained that he was pleased to hear his manager have such nice things to say, the overwhelming feeling was one of disappointment.

“It’s always nice to be complimented, that’s a positive for me, but I’d rather be in a winning performance,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s nice what he said, but we’re so disappointed with the result. It’s devastating to go out on penalties, the harshest way in football to lose after 120 minutes, a tough game, so really disappointed with that.”

It was not only Mourinho who was impressed by Skipp’s performance. There were a number of Tottenham fans who also lauded his display.

It is remarkable to think that the tie was only Skipp’s second start of the season. But it would be no surprise if he adds to that tally before the campaign concludes.

He certainly staked a claim for a lot more game-time on Wednesday night.

And with games continuing to come thick and fast for Spurs in the near future, Mourinho will surely be looking to use him a lot more often moving forward.
