Man United fans believe £100m star was ‘invisible’ in his 81-touch performance against Brentford

Manchester United suffered their third defeat of the season in the Premier League, and supporters were fuming with one player in particular.

It was another dismal display from Ruben Amorim’s men, who were defeated 3-1 by Brentford following a first-half brace from Igor Thiago and a 95th-minute strike from Mathias Jensen.

While Benjamin Sesko did score his first goal for Manchester United, it wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback as their dreadful record on the road was extended.

The Red Devils have now gone eight away games in a row without a win, and one of Amorim’s key players was unable to influence the fixture.

Manchester United fans are furious with Bruno Fernandes’ performance against Brentford

Bruno Fernandes failed to influence the game against Brentford in the manner that fans expect from their captain, who has traditionally been one of Manchester United’s danger men.

After he was heavily linked with a £100million move to Saudi Arabia in the summer, Amorim opted to back Fernandes and keep the midfielder at the club, but this season has been difficult.

His performance against Brentford left fans frustrated, both in terms of his impact on the game and the fact that he missed a penalty that could have brought his team back into the game.

One fan questioned Fernandes’ general attitude over his performance, claiming he has a “weak mentality.”

Another supporter said, “Bruno has had minimal impact, while being unable to keep control of the midfield.”

Some Manchester United fans have expressed their frustration at not selling Fernandes in the summer when there was £100million on the table for him.

One said that it was “criminal by INEOS to let him decide whether to stay or go,” claiming he should have been “forced to leave” during the summer transfer window.

Another fan had a similar sentiment, stating that turning that offer down “cost us points” due to his performances for the club.

Bruno Fernandes’ stats vs Brentford weren’t impressive

Amorim persisted with playing Fernandes in the deeper midfield role alongside Manuel Ugarte against Brentford, but it continues not to get the best out of him as a player.

The Portugal international was restricted in his attacking ability throughout the game, which negatively impacted his performance.

When Fernandes did get on the ball, it was a continued struggle, as his passing was surprisingly ineffective.

His defensive contributions didn’t improve matters either, as he failed to grasp the game in any way, as he only won half of his six attempted ground duels, while also making one foul.
