‘Oh no’… Alan Shearer still has one big concern despite Man United’s impressive West Ham win

Alan Shearer has now called for caution in the wake of Manchester United’s feel-good win against West Ham United yesterday.

The victory was an incredibly welcome one for Erik ten Hag, who caught a rare glimpse of the project he’s trying to build.

Rasmus Hojlund is now going from strength to strength, a player who is growing with confidence in every passing game.

Roy Keane was hugely impressed with the Dane, and was pleasantly surprised with how he executed his goal.

Alejandro Garnacho was obviously excellent as well – there was a lot to be positive about.

However, when speaking on ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast with Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer urged Man United fans not get carried away.

Shearer was impressed with United’s win over West Ham, he too enjoyed the performance of ten Hag’s young core.

However, the pundit reminded fans that we’ve often been here before, and yet inconsistency comes back to haunt Old Trafford.

Shearer explained his concern, saying in a month’s time we’ll probably all be criticising the project once again.

Lineker initially said: “Ten Hag said in an interview he was asked about [Kobbie] Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund. He said that he thinks the future with those kind of players is very bright.”

Shearer replied: “Really, really talented individuals aren’t they so I get that and understand that but it’s just the consistency with Manchester United.

“We have been there before and maybe in a month’s time we will be criticising them again.

“One week I think they are back and the next I think oh no, it’s another disappointment so they have to keep the results going.”

Of course, there is merit to the pundit’s words.

It’s often felt as if ten Hag’s side have turned a corner this season, only to be pegged back just a few days later.

And whilst Shearer isn’t trying to sombre the good mood after Man United’s impressive win over West Ham, his words should be listened to.

Perhaps Lisandro Martinez’s unfortunate injury set-back will already prove something of a reality check.

But on a positive note, Rio Ferdinand was really impressed with one United player yesterday.
