Report: Arsenal close to summer signing; player in quarantine already

Arsenal are inching ever closer to completing the signing of Benfica’s Nuno Tavares, with the player already in the UK and in quarantine.

The Standard report that Tavares has indeed arrived in the UK ahead of his move to the Emirates. It is claimed he’ll sign for around £8.5m.

The report also suggests Tavares will be ready by the end of the this week to join up with the Arsenal squad for pre-season. The Gunners are making a trip north to Scotland to be put through their paces by Mikel Arteta.

Tavares’ signing represents a move into the market for Arsenal ahead of a busy summer. The club are also edging closer to deals for Albert Lokonga and Ben White. Other players, such as Aaron Ramsdale, are also being tracked.

The young full-back is expected to challenge Kieran Tierney for the left-back slot with Arsenal. However, at 21, it is accepted he is also one for the future.

Exciting

This summer is one that promises to be one of excitement for Arsenal fans.

They are already being linked with so many players, that it’s almost inevitable that they’ll have a host of new players soon. Tavares, it seems, will be the first of many.

It’s a huge bonus to have him already in England as well. And barring any hiccups, he should be donning the Gunners’ training gear by the weekend or just after.
