Nottingham Forest’s true stance on sacking Ange Postecoglou and what Edu is doing behind the scenes

TBR Football understands that Ange Postecoglou is in danger of losing his job as Nottingham Forest head coach – just weeks into his tenure at the City Ground.

The Australian was targeted by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis in the summer and a deal was agreed sometime before Nuno Espirito Santo was dismissed in early December.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss is without a win from his first six games – the first Forest manager to do this in a century.

Forest fans voiced their displeasure at Postecoglou during their midweek Europa League loss to Danish side FC Midtjylland, and pressure is now growing.

Forest are publicly backing Postecoglou but sources have confirmed to TBR Football that a defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday could be his last.

Exclusive: Edu drawing up options if Ange Postecoglou is sacked

Our chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirmed that speculation that Nottingham Forest could make a change and pivot to their third manager this season was accurate.

Ange Postecoglou came into the job needing to make an impact, Nuno was much loved by the fanbase but the side in six games have shown nothing,” Bailey said.

“I am told that the club’s hierarchy are worried and a change can’t be ruled out. The club’s head of football Edu has outstanding contacts and will be presenting Marinakis with options, no doubt about that.

“I am told a loss at Newcastle won’t necessarily result in a change, but how they play will be key.

“A heavy defeat and/or poor performance and we could be looking at one of the shortest tenures in Premier League history.”

Postecoglou has also been questioned for his body language since taking the job, with Darren Bent believing his mannerisms are not conveying the correct message.

What Evangelos Marinakis has told Ange Postecoglou

Damningly, Postecoglou’s side have also conceded more goals than any other Premier League side in all competitions since his arrival, having shipped 13.

Marinakis’ patience is already wearing thin and Postecoglou admitted he has not spoken with the club’s owner since the surprise home defeat against FC Midtjylland.

“I didn’t catch up with him, it’s fair to say we weren’t both in the mood,” he said on Friday.

“I caught up with him after the Sunderland game, though. He wants his team to win. His only comment to me was, ‘How can we help you?’

“He asked if I needed anything, did I need any other support? I don’t expect him to be happy about the current situation, but neither am I. Both from the owner and people connected, all they have said is, ‘How can we help?’ The reality is, there is very little they can do, it is in my hands.

“I’m responsible for changing the club’s fortunes.”
