Nottingham Forest would want more than £50m for Tottenham target

Tottenham Hotspur face having to pay more than £50 million if they want to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, with Spurs interested in the Nottingham Forest midfielder.

Morgan Gibbs-White has been an outstanding signing for Forest, with eight goals and 11 assists since making his move from Wolves.

Of course, Nottingham Forest are in the headlines after being charged for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

The Times reports that they are planning to focus on selling players in the January transfer window rather than making further signings.

However, the report notes that the players who could attract a large sum are those not for sale. Morgan Gibbs-White is one of those Nuno Espírito Santo would surely love to keep. And The Times suggests that the 23-year-old would cost more than £50 million.

That may be of interest to Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham had a scout watching Gibbs-White during Forest’s clash with Manchester United last month.

One to potentially keep an eye on this summer

Spurs have already welcomed two signings this month. So while they are clearly prepared to go out and get their key targets, they may not have the funds to spend a massive fee on Gibbs-White.

But it may certainly be a link to keep an eye on heading into the summer. Forest do appear to be in a relegation battle this season. So the chance to move up the table may appeal to the former Wolves star at the end of this campaign.

And given what Postecoglou has done with a number of Tottenham’s players this season, he would surely be tempted to follow Brennan Johnson and make the move if the right bid came in.

But clearly, Forest – despite their current predicament – are in no mood to do any side a favour when it comes to signing their very best players this month or in the summer.
