Nottingham Forest now looking to recruit absolutely ‘absurd’ player, he’s the club’s ‘top priority’ - journalist

According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest want to sign Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho.

Nottingham Forest have been the most active Premier League club in the transfer market this summer, bringing in no fewer than 11 new players already.

The newly promoted side have signed some big names already, with Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson joining from Manchester United and the club breaking its transfer record to sign forward Taiwo Awoniyi.

Carvalho would be another marquee signing for Steve Cooper’s side, and Romano has described the Portuguese international as the club’s ‘top priority’.

Forest’s new look squad could be the Premier League’s surprise package

Steve Cooper will have his work cut out as the season starts trying to manage a squad with so many new additions, but it’s hard to ignore the quality that has been added ahead of Forest’s long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Neco Williams, Wayne Hennessey, Lingard and Henderson add some much-needed Premier League experience to Forest’s team.

Forest have also poached Harry Toffolo and Lewis O’Brien from Huddersfield Town, who they defeated in May’s Championship play-off final.

If the ‘absurd’ Carvalho also joins Cooper’s side, the Betis star is likely to sit in front of defence and could partner O’Brien or Ryan Yates in the middle of the park.

A brilliant progressive passer and dribbler, playing alongside the more tenacious Yates with Lingard sitting in front is a dangerous combination.

Carvalho isn’t the only player Forest could be adding to the squad, with a deal also reportedly agreed for Stuttgart midfielder Orel Mangala too.

Nobody can accuse Forest of lacking ambition in their first season back in the Premier League.
