With the January transfer window now fast approaching, Barcelona now seem in pole position to sign a midfielder linked with Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side are said to be very keen to sign a new central midfielder in the future, be it in January or in the summer.

And among all the players they’ve been linked with, a few names have kept reappearing over the last year or so, Amadou Onana being one of them.
Onana is once again having a fine season for Everton, improving all of the time under Sean Dyche.
But despite this progress, it seems Arsenal are no longer in the race for the midfielder, with Barcelona now taking pole position.
Sharing his update on X, journalist Santi Aouna clarified the situation.
Aouna said: “Barcelona are keen [on] Amadou Onana for next summer. A meeting was recently made between the player’s representatives and Barca.
“Everton’s midfielder is following closely by Manchester United.
“Nothing with Arsenal for the moment.”
Perhaps all of Arsenal’s attention is now focused on a different Premier League midfielder.
Barcelona now keen to sign midfielder Amadou Onana as Arsenal cool interest
A £58m fee was mentioned for Onana in the past, possibly one that led Arsenal to pursue other options.
It doesn’t seem impossible that Arteta could reignite this interest in the future, however attention may now be elsewhere.

Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz seems top of the wish list, although a deal looks near impossible in January, with one pundit now telling Arteta to look elsewhere.
Perhaps Arsenal fans would be slightly more worried if Barcelona were instead chasing the Brazilian midfielder.
Arsenal’s interest in Douglas Luiz does look very well considered, however the price tag often mentioned may just be far too high to achieve value.
Given the Financial Fair Play restrictions in place, Arsenal will have to carefully consider their spending, with a few important profiles left to add.
As well as a central midfielder, Arsenal are also considered to want a new striker within the next few windows.
And it seems that may be well advised to line up a £85m bid for a striker taking Europe by storm.
