Gary Neville has been adamant for a long, long time that Arsenal will not finish in the top four this season, and that has irked supporters of the North London club.
The Manchester United legend has backed his old side to get the job done, even though they have been shockingly poor over the last few months.
He has tipped United, as well as Tottenham, to finish above Arsenal, and his timeline on Twitter is often bombarded with tweets from Gooners, especially after Mikel Arteta’s side win a game.
Last night, the Gunners failed to beat Crystal Palace, and Neville couldn’t resist a dig at Arsenal supporters.
Gary Neville mocks Arsenal fans on Twitter
Just under a month ago, after Neville claimed that Manchester United would finish above Arsenal in the Premier League table, a Gunners fan tweeted a detailed explanation arguing why the Sky Sports pundit was wrong.
Instead of getting into an argument on Twitter, Neville sarcastically responded to the Arsenal fan by saying: “You’ve done it mate! Congrats.”
Arsenal fans were having fun at the time as things were going really well on the pitch. The Gunners became the favourites to finish in the top four after a string of excellent results, and that clearly annoyed Manchester United supporter Neville a bit.
After weeks of receiving stick from Arsenal fans, the Gunners’ defeat to Crystal Palace last night gave Neville the opportunity to hit back and he was never going to miss that chance.
TBR View:
Despite the disappointing defeat last night, most Arsenal fans were in good spirits. Mikel Arteta’s name was sung in the away end even after they went 3-0 down, which was excellent to see.
The North Londoners now have to recover and go on a good run again. As tragic as it may seem a day after the defeat, it is important to note that the Gunners have lost just three times in the league since the turn of the year, which is an extraordinary achievement.
Arsenal currently sit fifth in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. However, the good thing for the Gunners is that they have a game in hand over their North London rivals.
Arteta’s men face Brighton and Hove Albion next and even though the Seagulls have been shocking recently, it won’t be an easy game. However, the Gunners should be able to get the job done, especially as they will be playing in front of their fans at the Emirates.
