‘Not been up to the level’… Darren Bent says 24-year-old Arsenal player simply hasn’t been good enough

Kai Havertz’s start to life at Arsenal hasn’t exactly gone to plan.

The German was signed by the Gunners for £65m in the summer, and since arriving he’s contributed the square root of nothing to this side.

He has one goal to his name – a sympathy penalty against Bournemouth, and he’s yet to craft an assist either.

Fans have quickly lost patience with Kai Havertz, and speaking on Filthy Fellas, Darren Bent has now given his verdict on the former Chelsea man’s recent performances.

Bent says that Havertz has not been anywhere near good enough for Arsenal, claiming that for that sort of money, the Gunners will have been expecting a lot more from him, despite claims he’s doing a lot of good work off the ball.

Havertz not good enough

Bent gave his verdict on the 24-year-old.

“Did you know that Darren Bent is with you on Kai Havertz?” The host said.

“What, that he needs to go?” Bent was asked,

“No, he doesn’t need to go, but he’s not been up to the level. £65m without a goal or an assist, you need a few of either and there’s been nothing you need more than that. You say it’s early days, but he’s been in the league for so long. For £65m you need more than just pressing,” Bent said.

What has happened?

Watching Havertz this season has almost been like a bit of a fever dream.

The German has genuinely been one of the most ineffective players in the Premier League this term, and it’s hard to imagine that this was once a player who nearly hit 20 goals in a Bundesliga season as a youngster.

Havertz doesn’t seem to have a creative or clinical bone in his body right now, he’s lacking confidence and he’s even been shoved to left-back by Julian Nagelsmann for Germany.

We have no idea how Havertz has conspired to be this bad for Arsenal.
