'Nonsense': Journalist shares update by 'Liverpool source at very senior level' about reported attacking target
Liverpool have been linked with a number of attacking players in recent weeks.
With Sadio Mane reportedly looking to leave Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has set about looking for a potential replacement.
Darwin Nunez looks to have become one of Liverpool’s top targets in attack.
However, there have also been reports claiming the Reds are eyeing Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic.
Klopp has been a long-time admirer of Pulisic.
The attacking ace reportedly rejected the chance to move to Anfield just before his £58million switch to Chelsea.
Pulisic, who has apparently been left frustrated over his Blues game time, is out of contract in 2024.
Therefore, you can understand why these links have emerged this summer.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs says he has spoken to a “very senior” Liverpool source on the subject.
And the response came in the form of one word – “nonsense”.
Speaking on The Football Terrace, Jacobs said: “If Pulisic is to depart Chelsea, it would be to a Serie A club, not to another team in the Premier League.
“From Pulisic and his people’s perspective, Liverpool seems like a great fit, and make no mistake, Jurgen Klopp is an admirer and sees the potential.
“But this direct notion that Pulisic is the target to replace Mane as or when he confirms his departure from Liverpool… is incorrect.
“Having put that possible link between Pulisic and Liverpool directly to a Liverpool source at very senior level, with huge knowledge of their recruitment, the response I got, in one word, was ‘nonsense’.”
