Spurs have announced the transfer deadline day signing of Emerson Royal from Barcelona.

Tottenham had been linked with the Brazilian right-back for a number of weeks.

Speculation linking Spurs and Emerson intensified in the last few days, and now it’s a done deal.

The 22-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Tottenham, and will wear the No. 12 shirt.

According to BBC Sport, Spurs paid Barca 30m euro – around £26m – for Emerson’s signature.

Sky Sports has claimed that Arsenal were also eyeing the Selecao ace, but he preferred a move to Tottenham.

The news has come as a shock to some Barca fans, who have seen a top player leave not long after making him their own.

Emerson arrived in La Liga in 2018 from Atletico Mineiro.

As part of a joint deal between Barca and Real Betis, the 22-year-old would play for the latter club first, for two seasons.

The Blaugrana held the option of buying him outright for €6million (around £5.2million) in 2021, which they recently took up.

Emerson was a regular for Manuel Pellegrini last season and helped Betis reach the Europa League, providing 10 assists in the process.

But he made just three appearances for Barca this season before subsequently changing clubs again.
