The transfer window is starting to heat up for Arsenal.
After a period of very little happening, Andrea Berta is now juggling several high-profile transfers.
Arsenal are close to signing Christian Norgaard from Brentford in a £10m deal – who should be a strong replacement for Jorginho, who left to join Flamengo on a free transfer.
Mikel Arteta also wants a new winger, with Arsenal and Chelsea discussing a move for Noni Madueke, valued at £50m by the Blues.
Now – according to UOL – Arsenal have started negotiations with Corinthians over a deal for Breno Bidon as well.
Arsenal make approach to sign Breno Bidon
Thomas Partey is expected to follow Jorginho in leaving Arsenal, so Arteta clearly wants one more central midfielder to follow Martin Zubimendi and Norgaard to the Emirates Stadium.
Bidon seems to be that man. UOL claim that Arsenal have made an approach for the Brazil U20 international, and talks are now ongoing between the Gunners and the Brazilian giants.
It is said that Corinthians need to make a sale to aid their financial situation, and have therefore slapped a €15m (£13m) price tag on the 20-year-old.
UOL add that Brighton and Wolves are also interested in Bidon, along with Benfica and Sporting CP.
Why Breno Bidon could be the icing on the cake in Mikel Arteta’s midfield department
In Zubimendi and Norgaard, Arsenal have signed two midfielders who carry out a particular job.
The latter is a No.6 who sits deep and frustrates opponents – only Moises Caicedo won possession back more than the Denmark international in the Premier League last season.
In regards to Zubimendi, the Spain international is more of a conductor in midfield, keeping the play ticking over without often pushing into attacking zones – he scored just ten goals in 236 appearances for Real Sociedad.
However, Bidon seemingly does it all.
| Position | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Midfield | 38 | 2 | 4 |
| Attacking Midfield | 14 | 0 | 2 |
| Defensive Midfield | 8 | 0 | 0 |
| Left Midfield | 5 | 0 | 0 |
| Right Winger | 4 | 0 | 0 |
| Right Midfield | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| Left Winger | 1 | 0 | 0 |
As you can see, the South American is used in defensive midfield, central midfield and attacking midfield at Corinthians – also playing on the left and right – so the Brazilian could well act as something of a utility player for Arteta, covering a range of areas depending on what Arsenal need at that moment in time.
