‘No’… Pundit suggests £60m striker wouldn’t be a good signing for Tottenham

Tottenham haven’t struggled to score goals this season, but the reality is that they still haven’t replaced Harry Kane.

Indeed, while Spurs sold their all-time record goalscorer this summer, they didn’t actually sign a new number nine to replace him.

Logic suggests that Spurs could well be in the market for a striker this summer, and one player who has been linked over the past few months is Ivan Toney.

The Brentford forward is hot property in the Premier League right now, and heading into the final year of his contract, he’s expected to move this summer.

Speaking on The Spurs Show, Peter Taylor has been discussing the idea of Toney coming to Tottenham, and he says that he’s far from sold on the idea of the £60m man signing for Spurs.

Ivan Toney wouldn’t be right for Tottenham

Taylor shared his verdict on the £60m man going to Tottenham.

“As a centre-forward, do you think Toney is a good bet? He’s not Harry Kane, nobody is Harry Kane,” Taylor was asked.

“No, again with him, I don’t think he’d be as good, I think you need a number nine type to hold the ball up in that respect, because your wide players and Maddison can get the goals, the number nine has to get a certain amount, but you won’t get anyone who scored as many as Harry,” Taylor said.

Top player

We have to disagree with Taylor here.

Toney is a top player. He has all of the attributes you’d want from a number nine in the Premier League, and he’d suit Spurs to a tee.

He’s strong, he’s creative, he’s a great finisher and he has that level of swagger and confidence you need to thrive at a top club.

Toney is more than good enough to play for a team like Tottenham, and he’d be a very good signing for the north London club this summer.
