‘No chance’… Ally McCoist thinks it would be a terrible idea for Arsenal to sign 25-year-old this summer

Ally McCoist has now been having his say on a transfer move that Arsenal have often been linked with for the coming summer.

Mikel Arteta’s quiet January looks to have laid the foundation for a few more signings akin to Declan Rice and Kai Havertz this summer.

Both Arteta and Edu Gaspar seem to have a clear preference to operate in the off-season, with better time to plan and achieve value.

There’s a number of profiles that Arsenal need to sign this summer, and in truth, it could be a very busy period for the club.

Although now in the advanced stages of their squad rebuild, Arteta does still have several names on the books he’ll be looking to shift.

Perhaps forgotten man Kieran Tierney is one of those, a player who has now lifted the lid on his Arsenal exit.

And with all the funds thought to be available, and the flexibility that sales will bring, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Arsenal made an ambitious move.

Perhaps interest in Kylian Mbappe hasn’t completely dissipated, with his future looking particularly unclear.

And with that in mind, pundit Ally McCoist has now been weighing in on those rumours.

Ally McCoist thinks it would be a huge mistake for Arsenal to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer

Although McCoist will probably agree that Arsenal need a new striker this season, a player who can consistently score 20 goals a season, he didn’t think an Mbappe move would be wise.

The pundit had the Frenchman’s wages in mind, explaining that it would cause all kinds of disruption at the club.

And as a result, McCoist sternly warned Arsenal against making such a move this summer when speaking on talkSPORT this morning.

He said: “No chance because not only would you break it, you’d have to obliterate it and destroy it and once that happens there’s knocks on the door, saying well he’s on this, I’m only on a quarter of that and have scored this many goals.”

Of course, many fans would agree with the pundits’ sentiments here.

It’ll always be tempting to sign a player of such world-class quality, but it’s not worth compromising Arsenal’s whole project for.

A move for Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen would still show ambition, just without the same level of consequence.

That being said, Fabrizio Romano has now given Arsenal fans some encouraging news in pursuit of a new centre-back.
