Nir Bitton reacts as Liel Abada posts on Instagram for first time as Celtic player
Liel Abada has become Celtic’s first big signing of the summer under Ange Postecoglou after the Scottish giants landed the Israeli talent on Wednesday. Abada caught the eye at Celtic with his performances for Maccabi Petah Tikva. He posted on Instagram on Thursday night, and Nir Bitton replied.
Abada, 19, had a hand in 17 goals last season in the top tier of Israeli football. At such a young age, he scored 13 and created four more. Indeed, Abada has already played 76 senior matches for his boyhood club – and has broken into Israel’s national set-up, winning one cap.
Little surprise, then, that Celtic were not the only club pursuing Abada. The Scottish Sun say Belgian and French clubs were keen on him, as were Greek giants Olympiakos. But Celtic have won the race to nab the winger, spending £3.5million (Sun). He posted on Instagram on Thursday night.
What has Bitton said to new Celtic signing Abada on Instagram?
Celtic are renowned for signing players of Israeli nationality, or from Israeli football. Bitton obviously remains in the side, while Beram Kayal joined the club – before moving down south. Efe Ambrose was bought from Israel outfit FC Ashdod. So, the move for Abada is hardly a surprising one.
It is a lot of money to spend on a player that is just 19, that only has experience of Israeli football. But the potential as an unearthed gem, and one with massive resale value, is certainly there. Bitton responded to new Celtic star Abada, cheekily replying: “Good opening speech, now for work”.
