Nicolas Jackson is ready for a new challenge in his footballing career after leaving Chelsea on deadline day to join Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old has signed for the Bundesliga giants on an initial season-long loan, with the German side having an obligation to buy him.

Bayern paid an initial £14.3million loan fee, and personal terms are already in place for a five-year contract beyond this season, which will set them back a further £56.2million.

It ends Nicolas Jackson’s two-year spell at Stamford Bridge, where he had primarily been Chelsea’s first-choice striker.

However, the signings of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro have led to him being deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca, which has led to him leaving the club.

Nicolas Jackson is ‘excited’ to join Bayern Munich

Jackson’s deal with Bayern was one filled with late drama, and he has now revealed what joining the Bundesliga side means to him.

“Proud to join @fcbayern,” Jackson wrote on Instagram as he was pictured holding his new number 11 shirt.

“Excited for this new challenge and can’t wait to play at the Allianz Arena. Mia San Mia!”

The Senegal international will be available to make his debut for Bayern in their next game against Hamburg on Saturday, September 13.

The transfer between Chelsea and Bayern almost didn’t happen this summer because Delap suffered an injury against Fulham.

This led to Maresca assessing his striking options moving forward. At one point, Jackson’s planned Bayern move was cancelled, much to the fury of the player and his agent.

Newcastle United were interested in Jackson replacing Alexander Isak ahead of his move to Liverpool, but the striker only had Bayern on his mind.

Nicolas Jackson’s departure led to Marc Guiu returning to Chelsea

Jackson leaving Stamford Bridge allowed Marc Guiu to make a surprise return to Chelsea, after initially departing the club on a season-long loan to Sunderland.

The 19-year-old joined the Black Cats for the season in a bid to gain more game time while providing the newly promoted side with some additional firepower and quality up top.

However, after just 26 days and two cameo appearances off the bench in the Premier League, his time at the Stadium of Light has ended.

The striker did make an impact, though, scoring a late 84th-minute equaliser against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup second round. Although Sunderland did go on to lose 5-6 on penalties.

Chelsea recalled Guiu to the squad for the remainder of the season, with the young striker now looking to prove his quality within the team.

It is unclear how much game time Guiu will have this season at Stamford Bridge, but he is now an option for Maresca.
