The visitors may be rooted at the basement of the MLS Eastern Conference but they will be looking to claim their third US Open Cup triumph as they eased in the Final. Dwayne De Rosario set them on their way a minute before half-time when he capitalised on a handling error by the Fire Goalkeeper Sean Johnson who failed to deal properly with a deflected shot from Nick DeLeon.

The hosts will be looking to gain their third straight win and extended their unbeaten run to four matches as they get set to face the Sounders for the first time this season. New signing Swiss defender Jonas Elmer may be in the squad if his international clearance comes through in time.

Some are disappointed that one of the U.S.’s top players, if not its top player, is no longer playing in Europe and has seemingly given up on his dream of playing Champions League football. Others are enthusiastic about what the switch means for MLS long-term, and its potential role in helping to improve the quality of the league.

GICC LA Galaxy vs. AC Milan Battle For Third Place Preview

Los Angeles – The LA Galaxy will be going head to head with AC Milan for third place in the Guinness International Champions Cup Wednesday August 7th 2013 in Miami Florida. The LA Galaxy won their spot after convincingly defeating Juventus three – nil at Dodger Stadium while AC Milan lost to Chelsea FC two – nil at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Five MLS Teams hope for CONCACAF Champions League Glory

This Wednesday the CONCACAF’s version of the Champions League gets underway. Four of the teams represent the USA and they are allocated spots in the following way. Winners of the MLS Cup 2012: LA Galaxy, Runners-up in MLS Cup 2012: Houston Dynamo, MLS Supporters Shield Winner 2012, (most points in the regular season games): San Jose Earthquakes and the US Open Cup Winners 2012: Sporting Kansas City.

The visitors extended their unbeaten run to four games and gained revenged for the earlier season loss to Sporting as they moved to the top of the Eastern Conference with this victory. Jonny Steele gave the Red Bulls the lead after 27 minutes, but Kei Kamara leveled it for Sporting on the Stroke of halftime. Fabian Espindola claimed his third goal in his last two games to put the visitors back in front after 63 minutes and 6 minutes later Lloyd Sam increased it further. Dom Dwyer got one back for the home side 2 minutes into second half stoppage time but they could not find an equaliser and fell to their second consecutive defeat.

MLS Teams contest US Open Cup Semi Finals

The MLS teams join the competition in the last 32. DC United were drawn away to Richmond Kickers (USL PRO) and had to survive a scare as they were taken all the way to penalties before winning the lottery 4-2. Chicago Fire were also on the road as they met the Charlotte Eagles (USL PRO) but had little trouble disposing of them 2-0. Portland had a home tie against Wilmington Hammerheads (USL PRO) which proved no problem at all as they advanced with a 5-1 success. Real Salt Lake were also given home advantage against Atlanta Silverbacks (NASL) but were pushed all the way before prevailing 3-2 after extra time.
