Newcastle United would need to hand James Maddison the most lucrative contract in the history of the club to sign him.
Give Me Sport claim that Maddison wants to be the highest earner at the club if he is to join the Magpies from Leicester this summer.
Given that TalkSPORT reported when Kieran Trippier joined Newcastle that he was the club’s highest ever earner, that means Maddison would take that honour.
Journalist Dean Jones said that Newcastle would have to pay big money in wages to get the England man, who is clearly of real interest to Eddie Howe.

Newcastle need to offer Maddison huge contract
“I was told they haven’t received any encouragement from Leicester to do so [continue bidding],” he said.
“And they also haven’t had any encouragement that the player actually wants to join them.
“Newcastle will have to make Maddison their highest-paid player if there is any chance of this coming off.”

It should be added that it has been reported elsewhere that Maddison’s representatives are giving Newcastle encouragement and want them to bid for him.
Former Newcastle defender Jose Enrique has already given his view on the potential swoop to bring Maddison to the north east, calling it a potentially ‘amazing’ signing.
But Newcastle have been sensible with their money so far, and will likely not smash their wage structure to pieces for Maddison, so it remains to be seen how this plays out.
