Report: 'Brilliant' player's representatives are encouraging Newcastle to bid for him, Howe pushing hard now
Newcastle United have been handed a fresh boost in their attempts to sign Leicester City man James Maddison, with 90 Min reporting that the player’s representatives have given the club some encouragement over the move.
Eddie Howe is stepping up attempts to sign an attacking player this summer and it seems that the midfielder is high on his list.
Newcastle have made two bids for Maddison so far and Leicester have rejected both moves from Howe’s men, according to 90 Min.
Sources at St James’ Park have confirmed that the club made a £40 million bid for the player over the weekend and upped the offer to £45m with add-ons.
But Leicester are not budging on their valuation of the ‘brilliant’ Maddison and are believed to want around £60 million to even consider allowing him to move on.
The 25-year-old was arguably Leicester’s most influential player last season as he scored 18 goals and assisted 12 times in all competitions. And it seems that boss Brendan Rodgers does not want to lose such a key player for the Foxes.
Maddison’s representatives encouraging Newcastle bid
But, despite this, Newcastle have been handed some encouragement by Maddison’s representatives to bid, which suggests that the transfer could still be possible, and the club are set to continue talks.
At this moment in time, the club’s remain apart on their valuation for the player, which could prove a complication, but it remains to be seen whether a compromise can be met.
You can see why Maddison’s representatives may be encouraging a bid from Howe’s side as Leicester fell down the Premier League last season and have failed to sign any players so far this summer.
Newcastle seem to be on an upward trajectory and are showing ambition in the transfer market, by bringing in players like Sven Botman from LOSC Lille.
Maddison had his most productive season in the Premier League last time out and will be hoping to push his name into contention for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.
The former Norwich City man is reportedly open to joining Newcastle this summer and it may come down to whether the Magpies meet Leicester’s demands or not.
