Report: Howe wants one of two attackers at Newcastle in January, including 'unbelievable' £11m PL star

Eddie Howe is looking to bring in a new attacking wide player in January and has Jack Harrison and Marcus Thuram at the top of his list.

That’s according to the Guardian anyway, who in their transfer run down piece for each club list Newcastle as being one of the most active in January.

The Guardian claims the Mags will look to sign a number of players. However, it’s claimed that the main priority for Howe is to sign a wide forward or winger. And in doing so, he has both Leeds’ Harrison and French star Thuram high on his wanted list.

Of course, interest from Newcastle in the duo is nothing brand new. We only have to go back a few months to note Newcastle’s interest in Harrison. Thuram, meanwhile, is wanted by a number of clubs and just a few days ago it was claimed the Mags had opened talks with the France star.

Newcastle boss Howe has made no secret of his desire to strengthen in January if budgets allow. The club are expected to look for new players, albeit huge spending has been played down once again.

TBR’s View: Harrison and Thuram both improve Newcastle

It’s going to be tricky now for Howe at Newcastle when it comes to new signings. For every new face, it likely means one of his current crop is going to be pushed out. And given the spirit he’s created in the group, that could be tough to manage.

However, the best teams always progress and part of that is using the transfer market to good effect. Both Harrison and Thuram have qualities that the Toon can use. And if either are signed, it’s a big step forward.

Of the pair, Thuram is more likely given his contract situation. For Harrison, Leeds simply won’t want to sell, meaning Newcastle would need a chunk of money to prize him away.
