Weghorst ended up staying put at Wolfsburg and scored 25 goals in all competitions at club level.

And this summer, the 29-year-old played at Euro 2020, scoring once for the Netherlands.

Former Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas deemed Weghorst “brilliant” for his display against Austria.

The striker recently changed agents after being linked with a move away for the last two summers.

Now “there are rumours” of interest from Newcastle – and “not for the first time”.

Last summer, Weghorst reportedly had a £26million price tag (Buli News).

An international striker with plenty of experience at the highest level, he’d certainly be a good shout for Newcastle.
