Newcastle transfer news: Besiktas preparing bid to sign ‘outstanding’ Magpies player
Eddie Howe’s side have been the surprise package of the season so far and after a hard-fought win over Fulham yesterday, they moved back up to third in the Premier League table.
Much of Newcastle’s early-season success has been down to their astute business in the transfer market over the past year, with signings like Bruno Guimaraes making a huge impact at St James’ Park.
Of course, Howe is doing an exceptional job and has transformed Joelinton into a brilliant central-midfield player. The Brazilian’s upturn in form, alongside the signing of Guimaraes, has led to Shelvey finding opportunities hard to come by.
Now, it seems the 30-year-old is attracting serious interest from Turkey as his days at Newcastle look numbered.
Besiktas about to make move for Shelvey
Shelvey is now approaching the end of his current deal at St James’ Park and will be able to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
But Newcastle may get the opportunity to cash in on Shelvey before his contract expires. Fotomac claims that Besiktas are now preparing a bid for the midfielder worth between £2.2 – £3.1 million.
The Super Lig outfit are readying talks with Shelvey’s agent – who believes the player could recapture his old form with regular game time.
Shelvey has undoubtedly fallen down the pecking order under Howe after struggling with persistent injuries.
The ‘outstanding’ midfielder was once a regular starter in the North East but he has been outperformed by the likes of Sean Longstaff, Joelinton and Guimaraes.
It seems like the best move for both parties if Shelvey is able to secure a move away from the club this month.
But Howe will be eager to sign a replacement in the event that the Englishman leaves, especially after Guimaraes was forced off with an injury against Fulham yesterday.
