Brazilian outlet Lance has labelled Bruno Guimaraes the best player on the pitch after the Newcastle United star shone for Brazil in their emphatic win over Bolivia.

Tite’s men moved themselves six points clear at the top of the South American qualifiers. Of course, it has been confirmed for some time that they will be in Qatar later this year.

They still have one game to play against Argentina at some point. But Selecao rounded off the initial qualifying period in some style as they won 4-0 overnight.

And Guimaraes was the star of the show. The Newcastle star bagged Brazil’s third midway through the second-half. In fact, it was the first time that he has scored for his country.

And he has been lauded by the nation’s media following the game. Lance rated his performance an 8.5 out of 10. Meanwhile, they suggested that he was the best performer from either side.

“Very well concentrated, he played his role with excellence in the midfield, and was still fast in the play in which he assisted Lucas Paquetá’s goal. He scored a goal after the opponent’s hesitation and good exchange of Brazilian passes. The best on the field.”

Bruno Guimaraes whetting the appetite of Newcastle fans with Brazil display

Guimaraes was arguably the most exciting deal Newcastle pulled off in January. Most of their signings were pragmatic and clearly made in the hope that they will ensure that the Magpies stay up.

Eddie Howe resisted the temptation to throw the 24-year-old straight in. In fact, he has only completed 90 minutes in their last two Premier League games.

Newcastle are not quite completely out of trouble in the top-flight. But another couple of positive results should allow them to start turning their attention to next season.

And Guimaraes is arguably the player in the current squad the fans should be most excited about.
