‘I’m keen to see him’: Howe says Newcastle player has been impressing in training and is pushing for West Ham start

Newcastle United face a tricky trip to West Ham tomorrow as they look to extend their winning Premier League run to four games under Eddie Howe.

A series of improved performances from the Magpies under Howe have eased the relegation worries a tad. It follows on from a busy January, where Newcastle managed to sign a number of good players to boost the squad.

One of those players to come through the door was Brazilian midfielder, Bruno Guimarães. Seen as the marquee capture for PIF during January, the former Lyon man has had to be patient so far. Indeed, he has yet to start and has come off the bench in the last two games.

But according to Eddie Howe, Guimaraes has already shown in training what he is all about and is giving the Newcastle manager plenty to think about in terms of his selection.

“Bruno, in training, has already shown how good he is – and what he’s going to bring to the team,” Howe told the Shields Gazette.

“I am keen to see him like everyone else is, but it has to be at the right time and it has to be when the team needs him. For me, he’s going to play lot of games for this football club, and he’s going to play a lot of games this season, but, at the moment, the midfield has worked incredibly well the last three games, and I’m reluctant to make too many changes to the team when we’re in a really good flow.”

This was a signing for the here and now for Newcastle but also a long-term one as well. And Howe is right as well in that while his team are winning, why change it?

However, you get the feeling the Brazilian is knocking hard on the door. And if there is a sub-standard performance from any midfielder in the coming games, then Guimaraes could get thrown in.

West Ham might be a bit early given Howe’s comments. But Newcastle fans can still look forward to seeing their January signing soon enough.
