Newcastle should revisit Radja Nainggolan interest as Inter Milan prepare sale

The start of the summer seems a long time ago if you’re a Newcastle United fan and talk of a number of high profile players joining the club was rife.

Back then, takeover talks were still very much on and it looked like Newcastle may well have a huge influx of cash coming their way, as well as some new players and potentially, a manager.

Fast forward eight months, and the Magpies are still as they were. Still scrapping under Steve Bruce but looking a relatively sure bet to stay in the Premier League once again.

However, January is around the corner and Bruce will be looking at the market to see if he can add any quality to his ranks.

One such player he could turn to is Inter Milan midfielder, Radja Nainggolan. The experienced Belgian is expected to be moved on by Inter, per reports from Calciomercato today.

Nainggolan was linked with a move to the Toon back in April although, as we know, nothing ever materialised.

Experience, strength, and quality

Loan deals are probably Newcastle’s best hopes of bringing players in during January. The Magpies are hardly flush with cash under Mike Ashley and, like other clubs in the PL, may look to utilise the temporary market if they can.

Nainggolan, who reportedly earns around £67k-a-week at Inter, could well prove a good option for them. Of course, tempting a player who has spent the last 14 years plus in Italy may prove problematic.

However, at 32, the Belgian international might just fancy the challenge of the English game for a few months. He’s a fine player, too.

Strong in the tackle, good on the ball, and with energy in the middle of the park, it is somewhat a surprise we haven’t seen him rock up in England previously as he appears suited to our football.

The biggest problem in convincing Nainggolan to move could be Cagliari. The Italian side had the midfielder on loan last season, and he is being tipped to potentially make a permanent return.

Newcastle are a defensive team under Bruce. Nainggolan, naturally, does as a deep midfielder and could well prove a temporary upgrade for the club should they want to improve those positions.
