Radja Nainggolan has been quoted by French outlet Foot Mercato that he would be happy to return to Roma this summer, with the report claiming that the Newcastle United-linked midfielder will almost certainly leave Inter Milan.
Earlier this week, Italian outlet CalcioMercato suggested that Newcastle could look to hire out-of-work boss Luciano Spalletti in the coming months. Such a move may tempt Inter Milan midfielder Nainggolan into a move to Tyneside.
Nainggolan, 31, worked with Spalletti at Roma and then at Inter Milan – before moving to Cagliari on loan last summer in order to be closer to his wife who continues to battle cancer. This season, he has had a hand in 10 goals during 21 league games.
With Cagliari unlikely to be able to sign the 30-time Belgium cap permanently, a return to Inter is expected. The report claims Nainggolan has no future under Antonio Conte at Inter, while Nainggolan has stated he would be tempted by a return to Roma.
“If the conditions are right, why not return to AS Roma. I lived some beautiful moments in Rome, life was very natural there and nothing beats the Roman derby,” Inter’s £33.5million signing (Goal) said, as quoted by Foot Mercato.

TBR’s view – Nainggolan could give Newcastle the steel they require
In the middle of the park, Newcastle have some excellent technicians. Jonjo Shelvey is one of the best passers of the football in the Premier League, on his day, while Sean Longstaff and Nabil Bentaleb are excellent with the ball at their feet.
But they lack a bit of bite in midfield, especially with Isaac Hayden being converted into a right-sided defender. Nainggolan would not only add a goal threat from deep, but he would also inject a bit of aggression into Steve Bruce’s side.
