Newcastle United have sold youngster Elias Sorensen to Danish second-tier outfit Esbjerg.
What’s the story?
The club confirmed yesterday that the 21-year-old completed a permanent transfer to EfB.
Sorensen joined the Magpies in the summer of 2016 from Danish side HB Køge.
He initially joined up with the under-18s, but quickly made his way into the under-23s.
What went wrong for Sorensen in England?
For such a talented player, it begs the question, what has gone wrong for Sorensen at Newcastle amid his move to Esbjerg?
Well, it can’t be a lack of quality.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a brilliant time with the Magpies. He scored 32 times and registered nine assists in 65 games for the two youth sides.
But, quite strangely, he never made a competitive appearance for the first team.
You would have thought that, after his brilliant stints with the youth sides, he would have been afforded a chance. However, it simply wasn’t the case.

Even worse: Sorensen dreamt of Newcastle breakthrough
And it wouldn’t have been for a lack of desire either.
Back in 2019, when the youngster signed a new long-term deal, he spoke of his dream of making the grade at St James’ Park.
Sorensen claimed he was delighted to have signed for a ‘massive club’ such as Newcastle.
When talking about the Magpies, the striker told the club website via Chronicle Live: “It means a lot – I’ve worked hard for it over the last three years or so and I’m delighted to sign with such a massive club.”
Losing a youngster who you think isn’t quite good enough is understandable. Such things happen on a regular basis at almost every club.
But, to lose one of the club’s most promising youngsters could prove to be a foolish move.
Meanwhile, Newcastle could sign a Premier League defender on loan.
