Newcastle United have endured a difficult summer transfer window but they put that behind them on Sunday with a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

Eddie Howe’s side have now picked up seven points from their opening three games which is a healthy return, especially considering some of the performances.

Now, The Magpies have a two-week international break to rest and recuperate ahead of their trip to Wolves.

During that time, the club are expected to step up contract talks with one of their talismanic figures…

Newcastle ready to offer new contract to Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer and a swap deal involving Joe Gomez was lined up.

Though, that deal collapsed after Newcastle managed to raise funds elsewhere to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.

Now, according to inews, The Magpies are ready to offer Gordon a new contract on improved terms – like they did with Bruno Guimaraes.

The former Everton wide player is currently on £60k-a-week, as per Capology, so he’ll likely be brought in line with some of the highest earners at the club.

There’s some urgency to get Anthony Gordon on a new contract

There’s a growing urgency to renew Gordon’s deal to fend off future transfer interest, particularly from Liverpool.

The Reds remain keen on the 23-year-old, who is a boyhood fan of the club, so naturally, there’s always going to be links.

A telling few weeks lie ahead.
