Newcastle players and Ivan Toney react to £15m Premier League deal on Instagram
Adam Armstrong has completed a transfer to Southampton from Blackburn in a deal that could be worth £15million. The striker’s impressive form in the Championship in recent seasons has caught the eye at Southampton. Newcastle players, and Ivan Toney, have reacted to his Instagram post.
Armstrong, 24, joins Southampton after scoring 44 Championship goals over the past two seasons for a mid-table second-tier side. Last term, Blackburn finished in a lowly 15th place in the Championship – scoring just 65 league goals in 46 games. But Armstrong got 28 of those 65 goals.
He has been incredible for the Lancashire side but with Southampton looking to spend the money brought in for Danny Ings, Armstrong has moved. Costing a lot less than a previously touted £25million, The Guardian say Southampton have paid £15million. Armstrong reacted on Instagram.
Armstrong joins Southampton: Newcastle players and Toney react
It is a move that will leave a bitter taste in the mouth for Newcastle fans. After an initial loan spell in 2017-18, Newcastle sold Armstrong to Blackburn for just £1.75million (Echo). Three years on, and Southampton have signed him for a figure almost 10 times that amount.
Not only that, but he joins a direct rival of Newcastle in Southampton. The pocket-sized goal machine has penned a four-year deal at Saints – and plenty have responded to his post. Newcastle stars Jacob Murphy, Jamaal Lascelles reacted to Armstrong joining Southampton – as did Ivan Toney.
