Newcastle have now been told how much it will cost to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan this summer.

It was Foot Mercato in France who provided the information.

So, what is the latest on Newcastle target Rafael Leao? Let’s take a look…

Newcastle told Rafael Leao price

Well – according to Telefoot – Newcastle want to sign the Portugal international this summer.

Now – thanks to Foot Mercato – it has been revealed that Leao has a very unique release clause.

The French news outlet explain that the AC Milan No.10 has a €175m (£150m) release clause in his contract at the San Siro, which becomes active this summer.

However, it will not remain active throughout the entire transfer window.

Foot Mercato explain how Newcastle – and any other interested parties – have a period spanning from July 5th to July 15th where they can trigger Leao’s release clause.

It can be paid in multiple instalments – interestingly, this will be the case in every single summer of the attacker’s contract with AC Milan, which runs until June 2028.

Leao, who was once called “incredible” by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has impressed again this season with six goals and eight assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.

It comes after the 24-year-old remarkably scored 16 goals and assisted 15 in 48 outings last term.

Newcastle could spend this money more wisely

As tempting as it must be to trigger Leao’s release clause, Eddie Howe has other priorities this summer.

Newcastle need to make some improvements at the back – a stronger deputy to Nick Pope would not go amiss, for example – while the general quality of squad depth can be upgraded beyond the likes of Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett.

Of course, Newcastle could get themselves a generational talent by spending £150m on Leao, although that money would be much better spent on bolstering the squad as a whole – in our view at least.
