Report: Newcastle mulling over making bid for 'amazing' £60m man in January
Newcastle United surprised everyone late in the summer window when they moved to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
The Magpies had done steady business for most of the summer but splashed out big on Isak to make him the main striker at St James’ Park and give fans a dream future partnership of he and Callum Wilson. However, Isak has gone down injured on international duty and with the January window around the corner, Newcastle are said to be making plans.
The Athletic reports how the club have already planning for the mid-season window, and with that, James Maddison remains a player they are really interested in. Of course, Maddison was on Newcastle’s radar all summer, with some reports suggesting the midfielder had even shown hints he’d be keen to sign.
Thought to be valued at around the £60m mark by Leicester, Maddison is due to enter the final 18 months of his contract in January. And with the Foxes stalling on spending any money themselves, they might be a sitting duck if Newcastle do come sniffing.
Tipped to be an ‘amazing‘ signing for the Mags, Maddison has been left out of the most recent England squad but remains keen on pushing for a place in the squad for Qatar.
TBR’s View: Maddison Perfect For Newcastle
PIF have given Eddie Howe money to spend and while he’s spent it wisely, there remains gaps in the squad as well.
For Newcastle, a player like James Maddison is ideal. Already experienced at Premier League level and at the perfect age to go into his prime, it’s the type of signing to take the club up a notch.
Certainly, he brings goals and assists and in terms of attacking midfielders in Newcastle’s sights, Maddison fits the bill in so many ways.
