Reported £33m Newcastle target completes 90 minutes this weekend despite ongoing PIF talks

It feels like Newcastle won’t ever sign Diego Carlos this month despite being linked with him all January and twists and turns happening on what seems like a daily basis.

The Magpies are apparently desperate to land Carlos. It’s believed they’ve made him a massive offer to come to the Premier League and the defender is thought to be keen on the idea. However, as yet, Sevilla have yet to accept any bids from Newcastle, who have apparently gone as high as the £33m mark already.

But if Newcastle had any hopes that Sevilla might start resting or simply not playing Carlos, then they need to think again. The big Brazilian star has played the full 90 minutes for the Spanish side today as they drew with Celta Vigo in La Liga. Although it wasn’t the best display from Carlos, who saw his side concede two goals.

Newcastle will be hoping to accelerate their plans to bring in new faces this week. A 1-0 win at Leeds United today should give the whole club a lift. Indeed, Eddie Howe will be hoping it can help entice a few players to the club before January ends.

TBR’s View: Newcastle Won’t Want Injuries To Key Targets

The Magpies will be keeping a close eye on their transfer targets this month. Although, there is a lot for them to be keeping tabs on if all the reports are to be believed.

However, one thing they won’t want is some of their top targets suddenly getting injured. And while Carlos might have got away with this time, the Magpies won’t be happy seeing key transfer targets being used all the time.

It’s the ultimate nightmare scenario for any club. If Carlos was to be injured, then it could well mean a month’s worth of negotiations prove pointless. For now, though, Diego Carlos and Newcastle live to fight another day.
