Newcastle Transfers: Hakim Ziyech revelation emerges from journalist
Newcastle United have ‘explored’ the possibility of signing Chelsea winger, Hakim Ziyech, although his wages are a problem.
Ziyech has had a troubled last year or so with Chelsea. He’s failed to hold down a regular starting spot, despite still being a key player for Morocco, as he showed in the World Cup.
Those inconsistent minutes with Chelsea have seen the the likes of Tottenham express an interest. However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United have also looked into signing Ziyech. Explaining the Chelsea man’s situation on Twitter, Jacobs claims Eddie Howe likes Ziyech, but his wages remain too high.
Newcastle are assessing the market as we head into the middle of January. With Eddie Howe having them playing so well, PIF and the transfer team are conscious of upsetting the apple cart. Jacobs’ mention of Ziyech’s wages being a problem, would back that outlook up.
However, Newcastle are open to adding to the squad this month. A new midfielder is thought to be high on their list, while Eddie Howe would also like another attacking player.
Chelsea paid around £33m for Ziyech back in 2020.
TBR’s View: Ziyech to Newcastle makes little sense right now
And that’s probably from both sides as well. Chelsea shouldn’t be loaning or selling players to their Champions League rivals, while Newcastle can question whether Ziyech actually improves the XI.
Sure, he’s a good player on his day and has been lauded as ‘incredible‘ by his Morocco manager. But he’s been inconsistent with Chelsea, and Newcastle need players who can deliver on the regular.
Of course, Ziyech is a talent and has had some good days in Chelsea blue. Eddie Howe must have felt along the way he can get those best days back for the winger at Newcastle.
But as of now, in all reality, this one makes little sense.
